Wi-Fi Finder App

in iPhone App

wi fi finder iphone appWi-Fi Finder is a free application for iPhone and iPod Touch that tracks down the nearest available wi-fi internet connection. This app is useful for travelers who are in need of an internet connection and who need to find one quickly and efficiently.

Using the GPS capability on the iPhone, the app locates internet connections in the area. It has the capability of finding free connections and those you will have to pay for, keeping your options wide open. The app enables you to filter wi-fi hotspots into categories of free and paid, provider, and location type. Wi-Fi Finder boasts having the largest directory of free and paid wi-fi hotspots, with over 280,000 locations in 140 countries allowing you to save money on calling costs by using the Skype iPhone app.

Once you find a wi-fi hotspot nearby using the app, its details are provided for you and you can call the location to get directions, or add it to your list of favorites. Or, if you are planning on being without internet access on your phone, you can download the entire wi-fi hotspot directory to reference when you are not connected to the internet. This directory is updated every week, meaning it is always accurate.

Once you find your spot, you can share your wi-fi location with others via e-mail, Facebook, or Twitter. Also, if you are looking to connect to the internet using a certain provider, the app indicates which hotspots are generated by which providers, as well as what kind of location the hotspot is in, whether it is a hotel, restaurant, or café.

As with many other apps that rely on GPS capabilities, Wi-Fi Finder is not best suited for iPod Touch users. Instead of using the application as you travel, iPod Touch users should download the offline directory in order to have the most accurate list of wi-fi hotspots.
